New Hilton Opens in Lexington, Kentucky

New Hilton Opens in Lexington, KentuckyA new Hilton opened today in Lexington, Kentucky. Hilton spent $13 million in renovation costs to transform the 22-storey building into a hotel worthy of the company label. Half of the hotel’s 367 rooms were upgraded as well as interior spaces such as the lobby, atrium and Grand Kentucky Ballroom. Further renovations will carry on until 2010.

The Hilton Lexington/Downtown is located in the heart of Lexington’s business district. New amenities such as a fitness center, indoor swimming pool and spa, business center and multiple conference rooms are only the beginning of this extensive upgrade.

Upon entering the hotel, guests are welcomed with traditional Kentucky themes and motifs. The five-storey atrium houses art dedicated to the state’s long equestrian history. On the south side of the atrium is a remarkable three-story water fountain created by Mixed-Up Mosaics of New York City. Also featuring equestrian themes, the fountain is a mosaic of over 10,000 pieces of individually cut and laid colored glass.

The Atlanta firm Design Continuum was commissioned to incorporate traditional Kentucky design in the new décor. The company employed reds, blues, greens and golds drawn from the natural color scheme of the neighboring countryside.

While the décor evokes both the state’s traditional and historic elements, modern comforts such as flat-screen televisions and mp3 players have been introduced to the guestrooms. The hotel’s four suites remain under construction as they are refurbished with an ancillary ½ bath, wood tiles in the foyer and two flat-screen televisions.
