Manchester is situated in North West England and can be reached within three hours from London by train. As Britain's third largest city, Manchester boasts a huge variety of restaurants and is home to some of England's most famous night clubs.
Being one of the UK's largest cities, Manchester has a great deal to offer in terms of hotel accommodation. Hotels in Manchester tend to be a little cheaper than their counterparts in London, and though there are no internationally famous hotels here, some of the most innovative lie in the city centre - and just outside Manchester there's the possibility of staying in a country cottage or great house.
City Centre Hotels in Manchester
The two most prominent parts of Manchester for hotels are Picadilly and the Northern Quarter. Manchester Picadilly station is right in the centre of town, and there are plenty of places to stay here - budget to expensive - near this monument. Manchester hotels all tend to be more reasonably priced than in London
The area is also famous for its boutique shops, and cater for Manchester's fashion-hungry army of shoppers. For the best fashion, head towards High Street and Tib Street - both of which are located in the Northern Quarter. There are quite a few hotels in Manchester located in the Northern quarter.
The Gardens Hotel is one cheap option for staying right in the heart of Manchester, and is located in Picadilly Gardens. For something bigger - useful if you're sharing - try the Padhotels Spectrum Apartments. These are high-end serviced apartments. For more apartment hotels in Manchester, use our search function!
Deansgate – Hotels in Manchester's “Madchester”
This canalside re-development has more bars and restaurants that you could shake a stick at. The name Deansgate actaually refers to the mile-long stretch of road called Deansgate. It's lined with restaurants and a lot of interesting hotels are located in and around this area. Castlefield is another interesting area whose cobbled streets attract a younger business crowd. The higher-end Manchester hotels here tend to be boutique hotels, smaller and with an emphasis on interiors and customer service.
One notable new hotel in this area just to the West of Manchester's city centre is the Hilton Deansgate. It was completed recently and is currently Europe's tallest residential building. Apart from having all the trappings of a world-class hotel, the view from the top floor is truly superb.
Hotels in Manchester's Salford Quays
Another area that has been redeveloped recently is Salford. After Manchester's traditional industries evaporated the Quays fell into a long decline. But in the 1990s, as Manchester started to resurrect itself this area was one of the first to be redeveloped. Consequently, it has spawned countless restaurants, bars and shops - not to mention hotels!
Staying in a hotel here would be an excellent choice, and would provide a more authentic look at the city. For budget travellers wanting a Manchester hotel, check out the Novotel for good value on this side of town.
Both Ramada and Holiday Inn Express have hotels here, and are a good value proposition for Manchester hotels.
