In truth, most people visit Birmingham because they are here to visit an event at the enormous NEC conference centre, are on business or visiting family. However, the city has experienced something of a renaissance in the last few years, and has some splendid new architecture including the Bullring – a glittering temple to shopping that's won plenty of architectural awards and includes Selfridges' only branch outside London.
